CARDIOLOGY
Dr. Lou Kolman, MD FRCPC
Dr. Kolman specializes in heart disease, advanced cardiac imaging and cardiomyopathies. He is Medical Director at Vita and Clinical Co-Director of Stephenson Cardiac Imaging Center at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. He is a member of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic and a member and former Director of the cardio-oncology program at the University of Calgary. Dr. Kolman completed his medical training at the University of Michigan and University of North Carolina.
Dr. Nakul Sharma, MD FRCPC MPH
Dr. Nakul Sharma is a clinical cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure, mechanical support, and cardiac transplantation. His research focuses on mechanical support in end stage heart failure. He is Associate Professor, Heart Failure/Cardiac Transplantation and Mechanical Support at the University of Calgary. Dr. Sharma completed undergraduate medical training at the University of Saskatchewan before pursuing cardiology at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
Dr. Rajat Sharma, MD FRCPC MSC
Dr. Raj Sharma completed internal medicine training at the University of Alberta, cardiology and critical care training at the University of Manitoba, and earned an echocardiology Fellowship at Vancouver General Hospital. Dr. Sharma works in both hospital service and various community clinics.
Dr. Peter Zhang, MD FRCPC
Dr. Zhang is a clinical cardiologist specializing in advanced echo-cardiography. His research includes cardiac strain imaging and novel wall motion assessment techniques in echo-cardiography. He completed undergraduate studies in Calgary and an MD at the University of Alberta. After completing cardiology training, Dr. Zhang joined the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute where he earned a Fellowship in advanced echo-cardiography.
Dr. Liane Arcinas, MD FRCPC
Dr. Arcinas is a clinical cardiologist with a specialization in cardiac electrophysiology. She completed internal medicine training and cardiology residency in Winnipeg, and earned Fellowship in adult cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Calgary. Her clinical interests include heart rhythm disorders, ischemic heart disease, and cardiomyopathies.
Dr. Alexandra Bell, MD FRCPC
Dr. Bell practices general cardiology with special interest in cardiac rehabilitation. She graduated as a chemical engineer from Queen's University before completing an MD and residencies in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Calgary.
Dr. Christopher Lee, MD FRCPC
Dr. Lee is a clinical cardiologist with a specialization in advanced echocardiography. His interests include preventative medicine and valvular heart disease. He completed cardiology residency at the University of Manitoba and subspecialty imaging training at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Eadric Cai, MD FRCPC
Dr. Cai is a clinical cardiologist with a special interest in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Calgary and obtained an MD at the University of Alberta. Dr. Cai completed postgraduate medical training at Western University and obtained an adult cardiology Fellowship in Calgary.
Leisha Naphin, MN, Adult Nurse Practitioner, Executive Director Clinical Services
Leisha is a Nurse Practitioner. Her background includes cardiac surgery and transplantation at Foothills Medical Centre, focusing on pre and post cardiac surgery management. Leisha specializes in atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy. She also leads atrial fibrillation education classes at Vita. Leisha obtained an undergraduate nursing degree, a Master of Nursing degree and training as a Nurse Practitioner at the University of Calgary.
INTERNAL MEDICINE
Dr. Alena Yakimenka, MD FRCPC
Dr. Yakimenka is an internal medicine physician specializing in preventive cardiology and cardiometabolic syndrome. Her clinical focus is general internal medicine, preventative cardiology and palliative medicine, with interest in lifestyle medicine and women's health. She completed undergraduate medical training at Belarus State University, MD training at Assiut Medical School in Egypt, and internal medicine residency at the University of Calgary.
Dr. Boles Boles, MD FRCFC
Dr. Boles is an internal medicine specialist with a clinical focus on general internal medicine, preventive cardiology and palliative medicine. His research includes equity in palliative medicine and quality improvement. He completed MD training at Assiut Medical School in Egypt and internal medicine residency and Fellowship at the University of Calgary.
Dr. Shawnik Bhargava, MD FRCPC
Dr. Bhargava is a general internist specializing in vascular medicine with a focus in peripheral arterial disease and thrombosis. He completed medical training at the Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts.
Dr. Simona Burs, MD FRCPC
Dr. Burs is a general internist with a focus on cardiovascular medicine. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Dr. Burs completed MD training and general internal medicine residency in Romania and the internal medicine residency program and Fellowship at the University of Calgary. Most recently, she completed a Master of Science in clinical epidemiology.
Dr. Stewart Spence, MD FRCPC
Dr. Spence specializes in general internal medicine and Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS). He is an attending physician at Rockyview General Hospital and Foothills Medical Centre. Dr. Spence completed medical school and internal medicine residency at the University of Ottawa, and is a general internal medicine Fellow at the University of Calgary.
